He’s dead, Jim. He’s dead.

Ricardo Montalban, who played Khan Noonien Singh in Star Trek episode “Space Seed” and the movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, has passed away at age 88.

He was 88 years old, and apparently died of natural causes.

Mark Shea is a terrifying genius.

I keep having this vision of two bands of political protesters marching down the street toward one another. One is a crowd of right wing Christians cheering for the war in Gaza and yelling slogans against Palestinian propaganda featuring photos of dead kids. The other is a group of pro-abortion women cheering for Roe and Obama and shouting slogans against the Christian Right.

They meet in the middle of downtown. Tensions run high, but representatives of each group step out and face each other. They decide to tell their stories to one another.

The first group talks about how Palestinian photos of dead and massively wounded children angers them as emotional manipulation and pro-Palestinian agitprop. They complain about how terrible they feel at their portrayal as callous toward the suffering of civilians when all they want to do is make sure Israelis are safe.

The pro-abort woman softens visibly and a tear of compassion rolls down her cheek. “I know what you mean!” she says. “I feel exactly the same way about all those awful aborted baby pictures! All I’ve ever wanted to do is keep vulnerable women safe! I don’t want to kill babies! I just want to care for hurting and frightened women!”

The leaders of both groups embrace and sob. They never saw each other as human beings before! After conferring, they decide to combine their forces and march off to the Catholic Cathedral to voice their support for “Western Values” against the forces of backwardness represented by the woman-hating, anti-semitic Catholic Church headed by the Nazi Pope who hates Israel and oppresses women.

The Obama Transition Team has put up something called the “Citizen’s Briefing Book,” in whichyou can submit ideas which are then voted up or down, like on digg.com. Whether or not you support the man, he’ll be president in five days, and this is a tool everyone can use to let him, or at least his team, know what this country really supports. So, if you’ve got a particular issue you want to see dealt with in a particular way, you can go there, write it up, or find existing material and show your support by voting it higher on the list. I don’t know how much this will actually effect policy, but it might — it really might.

Superman is a Saint

If Superman represents the greatness contained in all men and women, written upon our hearts by the very God we seek to serve, then we represent that that very greatness can be attained by anyone, that it is a fundamentally human goal, and indeed, is the very reason each and every one of us is here. John Paul II, another superhero, once wrote to our generation "Never settle for less than the moral and spiritual greatness of which you all are capable." Let's take those words to heart, and live our lives, in Christ, the very source and inspiration for us, who is indeed the greatest hero of all.
